What Causes Diarrhea, Alternate Chills And Burning Sensation In A Diabetic Patient?

I had diahrrhea Sunday night. I haven t been able to eat much in the last few days. I got down a piece of toast on Tuesday and Wednesday. All I ve been doing is sleeping. I just checked my temp. It s 102.1. I have type II diabetes. I just moved from Oregon to Nebraska the last of June. I started a job, but someone sprayed a chemical degreaser that took my breath away. I ve been havingto use my inhaler several times a day. I couldn t go back to that job. I ve been alternating between freezing and burning.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Diarrhea is most commonly due to bacterial or viral infection with viral infection being more common of the two.
It can be associated with the fatigue and fever that you are experiencing.

The chills that you are having are related to fever.

Diabetes can affect the immune system and affect your response or recovery if your blood sugars are not controlled.

Treatment of diarrhea would include: (1) monitoring your blood sugars , may need to alter your medications
(2)holding off solid food till there is a 4 hour window with no symptoms
(then start with the dry solid food like you were doing eg toast). Using solids when the intestine is not ready would delay healing and worsen symptoms
(3)fluids to replace what is lost. Normally oral rehydration solutions and sport drinks are recommended
(4)probiotics- help to shorten the course of the illness
(5)meds such as lomotil or pepto bismol

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
