What Causes Diarrhea After Having Colon Resection For Diverticulosis?

I had a colon resection mid May for diverticulosis. Everything seemed fine after that until mid August when I developed diarrhea. I have had this condition ever since and would like to know if it will clear up on its own or if I should seek medical attention.Thank you

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

There might be possibility of intestinal infection in your case.

Diarrhea without any complications may not require medical treatment.

You should watch for -
- Frequency of loose motion.
- Consistency & color of loose motion.
- Approximate volume of loose motions.
- Symptoms like dizziness, weakness, fever.
- Nausea vomiting.
- Urine volume passing daily.

If there is no or mild dehydration you can wait safely to seek medical attention.
You should take plenty of water with electrolytes.
Avoid oily, spicy food.
Have bland food like curd rise, bananas.

In case of moderate to severe dehydration or presence of vomiting, fever there may be need for antibiotic.
There may be need for intravenous fluids in case of severe vomiting.

Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
