What Causes Depletion Of Iron Level In Body?

Hey I came down with something that has cause my iron to deplete. 3-4 years ago I became sick with a common cold, when I took a antibiotic it became worse requiring me to seek medical help. When I got to the doctor I was very pale. They said I looked like death. Upon testing my counts were bad. My iron level was down to a 8.2. since then I have had to take daily iron pills which has made go up. Last March I had iron transfusions after my kidney doctor ordered them. I have went to many specialist and none seem to know what is causing my iron to go low. While pregnant I stopped taking my iron and stay level at 13.8. I since have had my child and my level was 13.8 in Feb. I was getting itchy legs that ended up bruising and headaches. Checked my iron level and it was a 11.8. Doctor wasn t concerned about level. My back neck lympnods were swollen and have been also. So I be seeking another opinion

hello and welcome to HCM,
Low iron levels are caused due to decreased iron intake, increased consumption of iron or increased loss of iron from body.
Pregnancy is a state when requirement for iron is increased so if iron is not taken it can result in low iron levels.
Besides pregnancy requirement of iron is increased during lactation also.
Thus, iron has to be taken exogenously to maintain the iron level in body.
The neck swellings that you have mentioned need to be investigated.
A clinical assessment and an aspiration cytology needs to be done to determine the cause of lymph node enlargement.
I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for management.

Thanks and take care
