My 82 year old father started taking oxybutynin ER a few weeks ago and he seems to becoming more confused than he usually is. He does have some slight dementia already, but now seems much more confused than he normally is. He had a visit with his neurologist ( for Parkinson s) about 2 weeks after his primary care doctor started him on this med. Her advice was to see if something else could be prescribed as she stated this medication can often cause confusion in elderly patients who already experience some dementia. His primary care then prescribed myrbetriq, which is too expensive to even consider. I do need to contact him again to discuss other alternatives, but other medications seem expensive as well. I am wondering if the oxybutynin that is not the ER form causes less confusion and would lowering the dose, if possible, be helpful? He was prescribed 1o mgs daily.
