What Causes Delayed Periods?

I'm 50 days late on my expected period. All HPTs are negative. I went to an OBGYN on day 35, he took a urine pregnancy test and asked if I feel pregnant. I said no and he said to wait until day 77 to start bugging him. I feel like that is too long to wait and He just didn't care about my situation. My period is normally every 25-26 days then all of a sudden stopped. I haven't changed anything in my schedules, I'm not stressed out, I just want to know what could be going on.

Hallow Dear,

I do appreciate and empathize your situation.

You are in such a phase of your life that missing a period causes a common dilemma - am I pregnant or are these perimenopausal irregularities of the menstruation.

If your normal frequency of the menstruation was 25-26 days till last menstruation, by 35th day, the HPT would definitely be conclusive in detecting the pregnancy. Since it is not positive, it is most unlikely that you are pregnant. However, at this age, the chances of delayed ovulation and menstruation cannot be ignored.

I would suggest you to go for Beta hCG test which is very specific and highly sensitive test and becomes positive even few days before the missed period in case of pregnancy. If it is negative, you are not pregnant. Then you may take Tab. Deviry for 5 days and then within 4-7 days you should get menses. The other option is leave it to nature. Once you are sure that you are not pregnant, let the menses come by their own natural way. During the perimenopausal phase, the menses start getting delayed progressively. When the menses do not show up for six months, it is then Menopause.

My advice would be to confirm the status of pregnancy by Beta hCG test. If you are not pregnant, leave it to nature to take its own course and be prepared to welcome Menopause in coming few months or more.

I hope I have directed you precisely.
