What Causes Delay In Periods And Stomach Cramps Despite Having Negative UPT?

Hi i am hoping you can advise me. My partner is 2 months late in her menstrual cycle and has stomach cramps. We did a home pregnancy test at about 8 o clock in the evening. It returned a negative result. We then realised that this was a very unreliable time to do the test, so i advised her to see her GP. She did so at 4.30pm on a Friday and we got the results today as negative. I ve just found out that this was also a urine sample taken at 4.30pm on Friday and untested until sometime on Monday. As far as i am concerned, from what i have read, this is totally unreliable too, based on the time of the sample and the fact that it was untested for so long. Am i overreacting ? Or do i have good reason to feel this way ? Thanks for your help !

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of delay in periods and stomach cramps despite having negative UPT which can be due to stomach infection or food poisoning. It could be due to poor digestion and impaired metabolism of body. Delay in the periods can be due to pregnancy or stress, hormonal disturbances like PCOS. I will suggest you to get a urine pregnancy test done to confirm the diagnosis and get further management accordingly . I would suggest you to take Loperamide or Furazolidone. Drink plenty of fluids and also take oral rehydration salts to recover for electrolyte loss. For stomach cramps you can take antispasmodics. Take more of probiotics like Yoghurt in diet. Take a soft and light diet. If symptoms keep persisting visit gastroenterologist once and get complete examination done. Start treatment after complete prescription.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
