What Causes Delay In Menstrual Bleeding With Abdominal Cramps?

I have not had a period for about 6 months. I am 33. My period came on today and I have saturated a super tampon an hour for the last 5 hours. I am also cramping really bad in my lower belly. In the area under my belly button. I have never had cramps before. Should I go to the ER?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
No period for 6 months could be caused by pregnancy or other medical conditions out of pregnancy. You have not told us if you are pregnant or not.I will answer you question in both ways.
-If late pregnancy, possible causes could be placental detachment and placenta previa.Other causes will not give much bleeding.
-Out of pregnancy, possible causes of delayed menses and abdominal cramps include: hormonal imbalances,Polycystic ovaries, uterine scaring, contraceptive pills, medications, low weight, excess exercise, stress. With no period for 6 months, feeling pains/cramps and increase in volume of menses are common findings.
No matter the cause, you will need to see The Doctor or a Gynecologist for examination and work-ups.A pelvic ultrasound will be very useful here.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
