What Causes Dark Red Or Brown Discharge After Hysterectomy?

Had total hyst (no ovary removal) on Nov. 6. No bleeding or spotting until Nov. 26. I understand that as stitches dissolve some spotting and bleeding is normal. Most posts I am reading indicate light pink to red discharge/bleeding. However, mine is very dark red to brown and frequently accompanied by small clots. I am not soaking pads rather dripping when I sit to go to the bathroom and wiping a significant amount away at that time. Does this also sound like a normal post op bleeding pattern?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi, I understand your concern.
During abdominal hysterectomy, there are two incisions. One you see from outside is on the abdomen, while the other one is inside the vagina at the top which is not visible.
This vaginal incision sometimes forms a granular tissue which can bleed occasionally.
Your bleeding seems to be noticeable.
Please do not ignore it lest it can become alarming some times. Please report to your Gynecological surgeon. You may require cauterization (electrical burning)of the scar in the vagina. After cauterization, for few days to weeks, you may experience dirty brown coloured discharge. Do not worry. It is the burnt tissue getting washed by the body mechanism.
This should by and large take care of your bleeding. If there is any other pathology noticed by the Gynaecologist, he/she will take care of it.
