What Causes Dark, Itchy, Tight, Inflamed And Burning Skin On Upper Lip?

My upper lip area is brown and although I thought it was melasma, it is itchy, tight, inflamed and burning. I recently got a scratch in that are and the skin healed perfectly. So I have , what looks like, a line of perfect skin on my upper lip surrounded by the darker skin. Could this be dermatitis?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query symptoms such as dark, itchy, tight, inflamed and burning skin on upper lip you mention in query are pointing towards a condition angioedema .Basically it is a kind of allergy that can be caused by insect bite , sun burn or certain medicines (anti inflammatory).

I would suggest you to :-

- Give cold compresses to affected area 2-3 times a day.

- Take over the counter anti allergic like zyrtec or bendryl.

- Apply aloe vera gel at night .

- In the day times apply lim balm containing SPF 15 .

I condition doesn't get better in 4-5 days then consult dermatologist . Doctor may give adrenalin sort , prescribe antibiotics (amoxicillin) or may drain the swollen part.
