What Causes Cramps In Leg And Muscle Spasms In Abductor Muscle After Exercise?

I am an active 73 yr. old female. I work with a trainer twice a week to increase my strength and improve my balance. I have been getting foot and leg cramps in bed at night. When sitting for an hour or so I get muscle spasms in the abductor muscles. I am not diabetic. What could be the cause?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Vitamin B 12 and D deficiency can cause this. Other possibilities are electrolyte imbalance. So better to check blood levels of vitamin D and b12 , electrolytes like sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium etc. If there is any deficiency then taking supplements of these will be helpful to normalize your condition. Taking dark chocolate, fruits like banana, milk , eggs etc is good also.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
