What Causes Cramping And Diarrhea During Periods?

Usually have mild cramps with diarrea the day I start my period. Today I had such painful crampscombined with severe diarea I was in the bathroom and didnt know whether to throw up or poop. I was over heating and then having cold flashes. Why are my cramps so bad today? I have been having my period normally for years.

**

1. During periods there is release of chemical 'prostaglandins' which causes your uterus and intestine to contract thus causing cramps and diarrhea.

2. taking a pain killer/antispasmodic prior to commencement of periods helps inhibit the release of chemical related with pain [Ibuprofen/baralgan]

3. birth control pills to suppress ovulation also help ease painful menstrual symptoms.

4. Consult a Gynecologist for all possible modalities and to rule out any underlying pathologies like endometriosis and for dilatation of cervix.
