Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of cracks in lips, sore throat and dry mouth which is because of upper respiratory tract infection. There is no need to worry about it. You can take antibiotic like Amoxycillin or azithromycin. And paracetamol for fever. Dry mouth and chapping of lips is mainly due to dehydration of oral cavity and enlargement of papillae of tongue. Drink plenty of water. Take diet rich in fluids. Avoid excessive licking of lips. Use moisturizer or lip balm to prevent lips from drying. take multivitamin tablet to booster immunity of oral cavity. Chew on few drops of lemon or put them in oral cavity to stimulate taste secretions.

If your symptoms did not resolve in one week visit ENT specialist and get it examined properly and start treatment as per prescription. Do betadine gargles two times a day.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain the chapping of lips , sore throat and dry mouth are all features of a condition known as "DRY MOUTH"

It can occur due to a number of conditions like Intake of certain medications like ACE inhibitors which are used to treat high blood pressure, anxiety and depression medicines, allergic and cold medicines like antihistamines and decongestants , asthma medication etc..
Other reason can be damage to salivary glands or the nerves supplying the salivary glands, duct obstruction of salivary glands,Autoimmune disease like Sjogren's syndrome, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, severe dehydration ,infections like thrust etc..

In your case it seems that as you have cough and cold and if you have taken medication for it like antihistamines and decongestants it can be a cause or in case you are on medication for any other disease as explained above can be a cause..

In case if it is due to cold and flu medication like antihistamines or decongestants it will gradually get resolved once the medication is discontinued..

Saliva stimulants like sour candies , sugar free chewing gums and lemon drops can help in stimulating saliva flow..

Saliva substitutes containing methylcellulose can also help..

Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration..

For dry and chapped lips you can apply thick coat of petroleum jelly to lubricate the lips as well as it helps in locking moisture..
Lip balm containing bees wax should be applied.

As the dry mouth will be relieved sore throat which is also occurring due to dry mouth will be relieved..

Hope this information helps..
