What Causes Crackling Noises In The Left Ear?

I have crackling noise in my left ear. I went to a doctor the other day and they said they didn't see anything but it's been going on for two weeks now and I have a little pain with it. It sounds like rice crispies are right next to my ear drum. I can feel thumping with it sometimes

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

Crackling sound in ear with no apparent ear related problems seems to be due to jaw joint dysfunction known as TMJ/ TMD..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can advise you to get a full mouth x-ray done and along with it certain blood tests can be advised in case if arthritis is diagnosed as a cause..
Once the diagnosis is confirmed treatment can be done according to the cause..
As of now take a soft diet, avoid excessive mouth opening, warm or cold compresses can help..
For pain you can continue taking Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant containing Chlorzoxasone..
Massage the muscles over the jaw joint and the side of face with finger tips for relief by relaxing the muscles..

Hope this helps..

Regards..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of crackling noises in the left ear which seems to be due to tinnitus caused by ear infection.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Avoid touching or pricking it with any sharp object.

- Apply warm compresses to external ear.

- Maintain hygiene of ear canal.

- Put Otogesic ear drops.

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist once and get it examined. Doctor may order certain test like audiometry, CT scan, low and high pitched ringing to rule out conditions like hearing loss , exposure to loud noises. Doctor may prescribe medicine like eprisone and antibiotics.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
