Hi,

I can understand your concerns.

Bleeding after abortion generally stops in a few days. Prolonged bleeding might be a sign of incomplete abortion.

Sometimes few parts of the fetus remain inside fetus and so can cause bleeding as the uterus is not able to contract back to its normal state.

Sometimes inadvertent injury during abortion can also lead to bleeding.

To confirm I will advise you to get a pelvis sonography done as it will confirm the cause.

If the cause is due to retained placental or fetal products then you might need to take medicines like methergine tablets.

Sometimes if the amount of products are large then a repeat procedure to clear the abortion products might be needed.

Please let us know the sonography findings so that we can advise further.

Regards,

Dr Som Biswas MD
