Hi, please help! I'm suffering from constipation right now. I feel as though I need the toilet but when I try to push it pains me terribly. I bought germaloid cream which has anaesthetic in it to help me with the pain. I've inserted this inside the rectum and on the opening to the rectum. I've also started taking Dulcose stool softener but so far nothing. I'm bloated and feel really weak. Not entirely sure the last time I passed any stools...probably about a week ago or perhaps more. I've even tried warm baths and its not helping. Is there anything else I can do? I've been drinking a lot of water to try and soften my stools but should I still be eating whilst feeling like this? Help me please....I just want to get rid of the stools. Perhaps something that would induce diarrhea would help and wouldn't cause me to feel so much pain around the rectum?
Hi you can use enema to relieve constipation which is caused as a side effect of drugs.Principle of enema is to irritate the rectal mucosa which causes defecation. However initially enema should be used after which you should try to shift on laxatives like polyethylene glycol or lactulose. However if they are not effective enema can be used as and when required. You can ask you gastroenterologist to prescribe you Polyethelene Glycol.Polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution is used to empty the colon. PEG-ES is in a class of medications called osmotic laxatives. It works by causing watery diarrhea so that -the stool can be emptied from the colon. The medication also contains electrolytes to prevent dehydration and other serious side effects that may be caused by fluid loss as the colon is emptied.Polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution (PEG-ES) comes as a powder to mix with water and take by mouth. You have to drink one 8 ounce of PEG-ES every 10 or 15 minutes, and to continue drinking until your liquid bowel movements are clear. It will clear your bowel.,you can take Magnesium citrate also.It is also a osmotic diuretic with same effect as Polyethylene glycol. Thanks
