What Causes Constant Stomach Pain And Loose Stools?

I have had stomach pain for the last 48 hours and it comes in waves. I might go an hour without any pain, then it will hit me like a wave and last about 3 seconds but it s pretty severe. I have no fever and no vomiting but I am having a loose bowel. How long should I wait this out before consulting my doctor in person? Is this typical of a stomach bug?
