What Causes Constant Headaches And Drowsiness After Starting Citalopram?

I just started Citalopram (generic Celexa) and I've had constant headaches and sleepiness. I'm not sure if it will go away or not if I keep taking it. I skipped a dose yesterday and I was just fine, but everyday that I take it, the pain comes back. Should I switch to something else? It's been almost two weeks now. I'm also shaky (light to moderate tremors) that I need taken care of. Thanks!

Hello thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Celexa or Citalopram is a SSRI drug. The drug is a commonly used antidepressant and anti anxiety drug. When the drug is started in individuals, increase in nausea, restlessness and dizziness etc symptoms are seen. These symptoms usually respond to low dose benzodiazepines. Starting the drug with low doses and then increasing the dose gradually also prevent these side effects. In most cases the symptoms remain for about 1-2 weeks and after that individuals start tolerating the drug. So in my opinion you should start the drug as per prescription again and in some days the symptoms will reduce.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
