What Causes Constant Hand Numbness?

I m having numbness in left hand ( pinky and ring finger only) from sleeping on stomach and with left arm under pillow and head resting on top of pillow. I wake up several time during night and change position, but I seem to always go back to same sleeping position and again wake up having same numbness. I try to lay on back with left arm down by side and sometime the same numbness occurs. Could it be pinched nerve under my arm pit from years of sleeping in same position? Problem is I have try to re-train myself to sleep in a different position to no avail.
