What Causes Constant Drowsiness And Inability To Concentrate?

My grandson is 18 falls asleep even at the wheel of a car, while standing still, has a horrible time concentrating. I think it may be narcalepsy. Is it possible? His parents have gotten him every test there is but are now giving up on him. I fear for his survival out on his own after graduation.

hi
i understand your concern, there are many reasons that have to be carefully for the symptom that u described regarding your grandson.
the reason for your grandsons problem can only be found after a personal detailed conversation with him by the doctor.
the reason being, there is a form of depression that presents with excessive sleepiness, commonly presenting at this age. this can be ruled out by a consultation with a psychiatrist, preferably a doctor who has specialized in adolescent psychiatry.
other reasons like, considering his teenage - staying up all night chatting with friends could be a simple explanation to his daytime sleepiness, which could be found out by a casual conversation.
a form of viral meningitis presents with excessive sleepiness, this is a very rare form of presentation of meningitis that could be ruled out by a cerebrospinal fluid analysis, after a consultation with a neurologist.

please dont panic, get the right consultations and see to it that ur grandson has a good nights sleep for atleast 7-8 hrs.

thank you
wishin him a speedy recovery.!!
