What Causes Concussion And Swollen Face After Head Injury?

Hi My daughter injured her head, had concussion and 16 stitches. Two days later she had half of her face swollen, is it normal or she should go to the doctor again? What should be her life style with concussion? Should she clean a wound somehow? Can she wash her hair? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, i do care for your concern.
The swelling present might be due to normal inflammation process so need not panic now.
I would suggest
1) To continue on the prescribed medications, especially antibiotics, do not skip it.
2) Having bath or washing hairs is not advised as this may cause infection to the affected regions, gentle wipe with moist cloth can be done.
3) Do not attempt to clean the wound as you may introduce infection, always clean the wound only under strict aseptic condition.
4) normal foods can be taken, citrus fruits add help to healing process.
5) If the swelling increase in size of severe pain then consultation with physician is required.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
