Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am a 21 year old male with nipple discharge. I initially squeezed my nipples when I thought the glands around them were pimples. When I was 17 clear discharge started to come out. I brushed it off and thought it would go away. Now one nipple is clear and the other is milky white and builds pressure if I don t squeeze them for a few weeks. My test levels are normal, I have no tenderness around either nipples or any symptoms of breast cancer, besides the discharge. No pain or swelling. I know I need to get checked out but I m very worried and cannot sleep.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Milky discharge from nipples without being pregnant or lactating needs to be investigated. Milky discharge from nipples can occur under influence of a hormone called prolactin secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain. Tumor arising from pituitary gland can lead to over secretion of prolactin and thus symptoms of milk secretion from the nipples. Thus, I suggest you to consult a physician for clinical assessment and investigate the cause of abnormal milk secretion from nipples. A blood test for prolactin and CT scan of head will determine any change in level of prolactin and any change in size of pituitary gland. These investigations will determine whether the symptoms are due to enlargement of pituitary or some other problem.
