What Causes Clay Colour In Stool And Pain In Upper Abdomen?

last tuesday I had a very upset abdominal (cannot pin point exactly). By following night, I had diarrhea (about 3 movements). the following day, the uncomfortable abdominal nagging pain continued and at the end of the day I had the same thing: diarrhea (the color got my attention though, it was clay color). Anyhow, by Saturday morning, I had to start eating some rice and potatoes. It helped my stool become a bit solid, but it was still clay color. Today is Monday: I had a bowel movement and it is clay color. I have no pain, but I have this nagging discomfort inside my upper abdomen. It feels like the food is not going down, is stuck there...but I know there is no obstruction in the intestines, since I am having bowel movements. I hope I have given enough information. I just want to get an idea of what is going on or what to do about this? Thank you in advance.

Hi there,

Thanks for your query .

Two important symptoms you described is passing clay coloured stools with associated upper pain abdomen suggest a possibilty of an stone in common bile duct ( choledocholithiasis) . In addition to the above patient will experience itching, loss of appetite , jaundice , fever.

stones in bile ducts are common in females.

I suggest you to visit a doctor and get ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis.

I find this answer helpful
