What Causes Chronic Headaches?

Headache for 2 weeks, daily, sometimes better, sometimes worse, somewhat better with Ibuprofen 2 every 4 hours, starts in the back of the head in the top of the neck and radiates to forehead...seems to be worse after sleeping...what would cause this. Patient does not have a history of chronic headaches.

Hello!

I read your question and understood your concern.

I think that this headache may be caused by a cervical disk problem or a wrong position of the head during sleeping. It may be related to the contractions of the scalp muscles.

I would recommend you to perform a cervical column xray for degenerative changes.
I would also advise you to use an orthopedic pillow for your neck during sleep.

If the headache aggravates progressively I would recommend to consult with your GP for a careful physical examination and a brain CT scan, to rule out a possible intracranial lesion which raises the intracranial pressure.

Hope to have been of help!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
