What Causes Chronic Fatigue, Difficulty In Sleeping And Frequent Urination?

Hello Doctor Rynne - I am a 72 year old female, mobile, and relatively healthy, although somewhat sendentary. My symptoms are chronic fatigue and difficulty sleeping as I wake up frequently to urinate and then I have a very weak stream. I worry about this because I drink plenty of liquids. I have been diagnosed with diverticulosis and occasionally have pain in left groin area. I also have sciatica and sometimes the pain in my lover back (left side) is very severe. Not sure if the fatigue and urinary problem are at all related to the latter conditions. What is your opinion? Thanks, Virginia

Dear Rynne I am very sorry for your problems . As told by you ..you wake up very frequently for urination this interupt your sleep.because you are not getting enough sleep is the cause of day time fatigue . So the main cause is frequent nocturnal awakening . The most common cause of increased frequency is urinary tract infection this is particularly common in female and old age also aggrevates this. Apart from this it may be because of diabetes mellitus in which increased sugar level causes nocturia . As you have mentioned you drink plenty of fluid .In my suggestion avoid drinking fluid at least 2 hours before going to sleep.and plz check that you must not drink caffeine containing drinks.plz check whether you are taking any medicine that causes increased frequency of urination that we call diuretics used for treating hypertension . If you are using them try to take them at morning hours.or in evening . Hope this will help.
