What Causes Chronic Cystitis?

Dear Doctor,I am 29 female patient.I have suffered from recurrent utis since I was a child with normal radiological investigations. I m have been suffering with a uti for 5 weeks now but as I was pretty much asymptomatic so I wanted to hold off antibiotics.During an ultrasound I had today the radiologist told me the bladder wall appeared thickened at 4mm appearances suggestive of chronic cystitis. Is this a common finding if one is suffering with a uti during the scan and if so will it resolve once I start antibiotics. Is cystoscopy usually indicated in these cases? Many thanks

Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Chronic cystitis can occur from recurrent urinary tract infection as it leads to repeated infection and inflammation of bladder wall which causes its thickening.
The cause for recurrent urinary tract infection should be found out and treated, so that further effect on the urinary bladder can be stopped.
I would suggest you to consult an urologist to get properly examined, investigated and treated accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
