What Causes Chest Tightness And Cough After Quit Smoking?
hi I have given up smoking for two months, but my boyfriend died in my unit the other day and I relapsed and smoked a packet of cigarettes. I am now reducing off the patches again but am experiencing chest tightness and coughing fits. I was also diagnosed with stage 2 copd but as one measurement was normal. Other measurements suggested stage 3. I have coughing fits where I cant breath which starts off with a tickle in the throat.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Cigarette consists of tobacco and nicotine is main constituent of tobacco. This is a highly addictive substance. You quit the smoking successfully and then relapsed and now you have started to reduce the doses. The symptoms of chest tightness, coughing you are having are probably due to nicotine withdrawal only. You have been diagnosed with COPD and you should quit the smoking immediately because this would worsen the situation only.
For reduction of craving, chest tightness etc symptoms medicines like bupropion, verecline etc are commonly used. Nicotine replacement by nicotine gums is also very useful in smoking cessation. Visit a psychiatrist for evaluation and for detailed prescription of these medicines.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
