I woke up at 3:30 in the mroorning with chest pain runing into upper part of my back. I took a nitroglycerin pill at it relieved my pain within minutes. I have a repaired Atrial Septal defeat. What could be causing the pain. What worries me is that the nitro took the pain away. I have had these boudt many other time before and sometimes thinking if the boudt didnt go away I would have to go to the er.

hi this pain could be cardiac related or can be stress induced gastritis. if lt is relieved by vaso-dilatory effect of nitroglycerine it is relative cardiac pain most probably oesophageal induced coronary vasospasm. uncorrected Atrial septal defect can many times cause chest pain, but not likely in case i still suggest you to go to the ER or your cardiologist to get evaluated, with an ECG, ECHO-CARDIOGRAPHY, if required further evaluation all the best take care
