What Causes Chest Discomfort And Pain In The Upper Abdomen?

my husband went to the er last week complaining of discomfort in the area of his heart, feeling bloated, and pain in his upper abdominal area. They gave him a complete work up and told his to treat it like an indigestion /heart burn. Now a week later I have the same symptoms plus a feeling like I could vomit. What might be causing this?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If you are now having similar symptoms, then it may indicate that the issues may be related to a viral infection.

This is a common cause of gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain and nausea.

It normally passes in a few days in most adults.
Treatment would depend slightly on if vomiting occurs.

If there is no vomiting then treatment would consist of : (1)pepcid or zantac to help with the bloating, burning
(2)peptobismol may be also be helpful. It would help with those symptoms as well along with nausea
(3)dramamine would help with nausea but may make you drowsy

If there is vomiting then you would need to hold off solid food till there is a 4 hour window with no vomiting.

I hope this helps
