What Causes Catarrh Odor With Thickness?

Hello, going straight to the issue. I have had catarrh several times before, but this particular time the catarrh smells really bad. It is thick and all. I am just curious as to why it smells this bad. It smells like curry seasoning. Any reason why it smells this bad?

Hello

Welcome in HCM.

I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that there are two main reasons for getting bad smell in catarrh-

1- Whenever olfactory area of nose gets infected one may get perverted smell.

2- In infective Rhino sinusitis mainly with Pseudomonas usually bad smell is incorporated.

In children some times foreign bodies in nose of quite long duration may give rise to bad smell.

But it is necessary if any one is having catarrh with bad smell, the treatment should be taken by specialist consultation.

Well, you could be having a mixed infection; use nasal saline drops 3- 4 times daily and do steam inhalations.
Drink enough water and maintain good oral hygiene; if all this does not help, an antibiotic and a proper check up may be needed.
