What Causes Burning Sensation In Mouth, Tongue And Gums Post Withdrawal From Antibiotics?

Could burning mouth, tongue and gums be a side effect of detoxing from prescription medication. Also for the past few weeks by body temp. has gone from extremely hot to frozen day and night. I have been off all meds. for about 1 month and symptoms are still so severe, how much longer before I will start to feel better? Mostly Bipolar and and pain meds. (not opiates)

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of burning sensation in mouth, tongue and gums which could be due to post withdrawal from antibiotics and could be due to weakened immune system which leads to deposition of keratin on tongue.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult dentist/oral pathologist for proper evaluation and to rule out any other underlying disease. Doctor may prescribe antifungal medicine for 10-14 days along with antiseptic mouthwash like listerine. Drink plenty of fluids and maintain proper oral hygiene. Take probiotic like yogurt in diet and saliva substitute for dry mouth.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
