What Causes Bumps After Experiencing Itchy Skin?

Itchy skin that turns into bumps when scratched Sometimes lately I've had areas of my skin that itch. Initially I don't notice any signs of any rash or anything, but after I scratch the area small bumps form sort of in clusters. After I leave them alone for a few minutes they tend to disappear. They look sort of like insect bites or scabies when they become raised, but I don't believe that this is what they are. Currently this is happening at the bottom. What are possible causes?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms of itching followed by appearance of bumps seems to be due to Contact Dermatitis secondary to allergic reaction to things like any skin cosmetic or detergent..
It can also be due to allergic reaction to poison ivy, leather, latex, certain medication etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Prick test, Patch test,RAST test, Food challenge test to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms and treatment you accordingly..
As of now you can take anti allergics like Benadryl or Levocetrizine to relieve itching..
You can apply Steroid ointment over the rashes..
Do cool compresses..
Apply Calamine lotion to soothe the skin..
In case of recurring episodes an Immunotherapy can be instilled to reduce the severity of allergic reactions..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of bumps after experiencing itchy skin. The bumps you mention occur due to many reasons like excessive sun exposure or allergy . The other reason of red bumps can be a skin infection. You should use body wash containing salicylic acid and apply kojic acid cream twice a day. Use sunscreen with SPF 15 while in exposure to sun to prevent skin from excessive sun damage. Exfoliate facial skin once a week to remove dead skin. Apply aloe vera gel at night. Drink plenty of fluids and water to hydrate yourself. Give cold compresses for itchiness. If condition persist even after month then consult dermatologist. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics, antiviral, steroid drugs or isotretinoin.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
