What Causes Bumps After Chicken Pox Vaccination?

I have an almost 2 year old child who has received the vaccine for Chickenpox. I have noticed these bumps on her that haven't gone away. At first I thought they were bug bits but now I am no so sure. They look almost like a blister/bug bite. One looks like it might start to crust over. I am not sure if it chicken pox or something else.

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

There are two possibilities as it is not clear by your question that after how many days of vaccinations these blisters appear.

First possibility is vaccine associated rash, that appear in 1-3 percent of individuals ,1-3 weeks after chickenpox vaccine , resolves itself and does not require any specific treatment.

Second possibility is breakthrough varicella (chickenpox) , chance of which are one in five individuals receiving one dose of chickenpox vaccine , and very much less after two doses of chickenpox vaccine. Illness is very mild, with almost no fever, or complications as compared to disease in non-vaccinated individuals.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions , do not hesitate in writing to us.

Wishing your baby good health.

Thank you for consulting in HealthCareMagic. I understand your concern. The rash in case of a chicken pox looks like a fluid filled blister and crusts after the thin covering membrane ruptures as they develops into itchy, raw pockmarks. Generally they are associated with fever. The disease is self containing and heals spontaneously without treatment though antivirals may reduce the intensity and duration. It is not possible for me to make the confirm diagnosis unless I can have a direct look at it .

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. Wish your kid good health.
