What Causes Bump On The Upper Lip?

About 10 minutes ago I noticed a small bump on my upper lip almost on the inside of the lip, it was not there earlier today and I have never had this happen before. It doesn't hurt or itch, and it's just big enough to bother me when my mouth it closed, I can feel it on my bottom lip when my mouth is closed. It's not discolored, and isn't really noticeable unless you're looking for it. Could it be a blister? The start of a cold sore? Maybe I subconsciously bit my lip and that caused it? A bug bite? Please help before I worry myself about something that probably isn't a huge deal. Thanks!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of bump on upper lip which is giving you no other symptoms of fever , weakness along with that is mainly due to lip biting. Accidentally teeth of lower jaw strike upper lip and cause bump in that area due to excessive accumulation of collagen fibers in that area. If you have excessive sun exposure then this blister could be because of that.

Need not to panic about it. Take ice cubes and press on this area for 10-12 mins off and on. Keep area rehydrated with lip moisturizing creams. Keep drinking plenty of water. Apply honey on this area for faster relief.

Take multivitamin tablet to booster immunity. Avoid sharp, hot and spicy food substances as it will exaggerate symptoms.

Your symptoms will resolve with in 3-4 days.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a small bump on the inner side of upper lip can be due to formation of Mucocele which is due to injury to the lip caused due to either lip biting and any other trauma leading to damage to minor salivary glands or their ducts leading to spillage of its contents into the soft tissues and formation of a lump..

It mostly resolves by itself by getting ruptured and healing gradually..

In case it does not heal surgical removal has to be done..

You can do concentrated salt water rinses as it can help in regressing the lump..

Hope this information helps..
