What Causes Bulging Of Varicose Veins In The Calf?
Hello, I am a 50 year old male, and have had bulging Varicose veins in my calf since a child. they have never given be any trouble. But now they are painful and I can barley walk. The area around the veins are very hard and red. I have had a heart attack and a stint put in when I was 38 due to a clot caused by cholesterol problem. Not sure if its related. I also tire easily and suffer some fatigue. What should be my next course of action and will it go away on its own. Thanks -DG (South Dakota)
Hi, The varicose veins usually do not cause any problems. If they are causing you problems then you can get treatment done in the form of Open Surgery/ Laser surgery or injection sclerotherapy. There are various options available but I advice you to consult a Vascular Surgeon who can examine you and decide with your help as to what would be the best mode of therapy for you. If they are troubling you then treatment should be done. They are all normal surgeries without much risk and there is no need to worry. If you choose not to treat them then you could start wearing Compression stockings Class II whenever you are walking or ambulant and they will keep the veins in check. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
