Hello!
This is difficult to answer as the positions can be related, but probably are not. If you say "bug bites" - Were you in a place that you normaly are not? You must think of what you were doing when this occured.

It sounds like a possible allergy - However it very well could be bug bites as you stated. It depends on where you live. I do not know your area, so I do not know what type of bugs (i.e Chiggers, RedBugs, Mosquitos) etc are common and relative to your surroundings.

Think of any changes you have made.

DO NOT TAKE PRESCRIPTION STEROIDS WITHOUT SEEING A DOCTOR - If it is an infection or allergy, or a poison (Poison Ivy, etc) you can INHANCE the problem and feed it in some cases, depending on what it is.

Please try to follow up with someone on this site after a few days, or myself and try to give a background of where you were when these came about.

---Secondary Answer
It could be HIVES caused by anxiety - This can be commen in women and men, especially over 35. Some people have what we call "Trigger Hives" which can come up, and go away, then come back in the same spot - Many reasons this can happen.
New Diet, Stress, Anger, etc.

Followup - Give a better background - If symptoms persist SEE YOUR DOCTOR

However Diphenhydramine aka Benadryl, is okay to see if it helps. You can also try cremes as you stated. JUST NOTHING "RX" until you've seen a doctor.
I find this answer helpful
