What Causes Bruising In Leg And Ankle After A Knee Injury?

A week ago I fell on my knee and went to the ER they took an exray , nothing was broken and called it a knee contusion. I now have bruising down my leg, on my ankle and my toes are now bruising. my knee is almost all completely numb, my shin bone is in a lot of pain also. I am concern about gangrene. What should do and why is this happening to my leg and foot?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as there is no bony fracture found the bruising seems to be due to injury to small blood vessels leading to hematoma formation and bruising due to spillage of blood into the soft tissues..
Due to Gravitational force the blood that is leaked from blood vessels seems to have flown towards lower leg and ankle causing bruising..
The numbness seems to be due to injury to terminal nerve ending..
I would suggest you to do alternate warm and cool compresses over the swelling, the entire bruised foot and painful areas..
Take Aleve or Advil for pain..
Elevate your leg while lying down..
Apply heparin gel for faster fading of bruising..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
