What Causes Bruises With Indentations On Ankle And Calf?

I have several bruises with indentations on my ankle and back of calf. I have not hit anything to cause this. I did have a knee replacement 3 months ago, and entire leg was black and swollen. It cleared up and several weeks ago these bruises appeared. I have showed it to 4 different Doctors. One prescribed a cortisone cream, one thought it looked as though it was atrophied, and another said he thought it was a result of all of the trauma to that leg. It is curious to me why the leg cleared up, and then the bruises showed up.

The new bruises are possibly due to your surgery. If you had a blood deep in the knee or leg it may show up a week after surgery. I would also think that new bleeding from taking aspirin or any anti-inflammatory may cause the new bruising. I recommend not using aspirin or NSAIDs for a few weeks. The indentation maybe atrophy of your muscles. Doing physical therapy and strengthening exercises may help regain the muscle
