What Causes Brownish Vaginal Discharge After Having Contraceptive Pills?
Hi, I ve recently started taking contraception pills about a month and roughly two weeks ago. I got my period last Wednesday and came off the following week. Just after my period had stopped my discharge was a normal colour, like usual. The day after my discharge went a light brown colour then the following night (1st of May) it went really dark brown, which looked black in my underwear. It had a funny smell to it which I ve not had before and I am concerned of what may cause this to happen.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. - Oral contraceptives are hormone preparations & occasional spotting is seen in first 3 months- till the body gets adjusted to hormone. - The dark/ smelly discharge is old blood collected in uterus. - maintain genital hygiene well to avoid any infection to take over. Please don't worry. continue with the pills uninturrupted. The problem should go in a couple of months. Visit your doctor if it's prolonged/ profuse. Thanks.
