What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge During Pregnancy?

I had a miscarriage back in september 2010, at around 8 weeks, had subchorionic haematoma also with that pregnancy. that was my 5th pregnancy. I am currently 6 weeks 6 days in this pregnancy and I have started spotting brown discharge, and sometimes the discharge looks orangy on my underwear, I had a scan yeasterday that showed no haematoma or cause for bleeding, showed baby measuring fine and heartbeat was seen clearly. What could be the cause for this? and Is it likely that I will miscarry again? I am really scared and worried. I feel I should mention that the spotting really started after a bowel movement, and that there were 2 tiny red clots and i mean the size of a pin top when I wiped. is all definitely coming from the vagina and not the back passage I checked that out. what could be the problem?

Hallow Dear,

It is but natural that you are concerned about the brown vaginal discharge. Usually any brown discharge during pregnancy is indicative of non-viable foetus. However, after brown discharge you have undergone ultrasonography scan which has showed that there is no haematoma and the baby is unaffected. It is likely that the bleeding could be from the mouth of the uterus.

Since, the baby is unaffected, there is no issue of concern. Get yourself internally examined from Obstetrician to identify any vaginal or cervical lesion and if so whether it needs ant intervention. Usually, there is cervical erosion during pregnancy, but it does not require any treatment as it is due to raised levels of Oestrogen.

I hope you are satisfied with this information.
