What Causes Brown Discharge During Pregnancy?

I am 39 weeks pregnant i just had my dr apt yesterday and i am 2cm dilated and 50% effaced. I just went to the bathroom and whiped and had a light red almost brown stain on the toliet paper and i smelt it and it smells like blood what could this mean?

Hi.during active phase of labour there is separation of membrane from uterus which leads to some bleeding it is called show. Don't worry it is normal.
