What Causes Broken And Purple Colour Blood Vessels Under The Tongue?

My 87 yr old mother in law was previously on blood pressure medication as well as numerous other Rxs, her MD stopped the Rx for the blood pressure at her last appointment. Her BP this evening was 151/86 and yesterday it was 159/89 and 3 days ago it was 150/91 in the evening and 149/102 in the morning. She also suffers from a-fib.This evening she noticed that the blood vessels under tongue appear broken and are purple. She is also on warafin. Is this something for which I should take her to the ER or is it something that can wait until tomorrow to get her into to see her MD?

Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

Considering the age of your mother, and the medications she is on, these could be just incidentally discovered arteriosclerotic vessels in the under surface of the tongue, or they could be oozing blood vessels due the intake of aspirin/warfarin.
I would suggest for a complete clotting profile for her apart from the routine tests like CBC, liver function tests, etc. With the investigation reports, you should get her reviwed by her cardiologist. Thanks and take care.
