My 19 year old daughter is underweight. Height 5 8 106lbs. She takes Lexapro for anxiety. She suffers from irritable bowel syndrome. She sees a therapist and a nutritionist. She s breaking out in cold sweats at night. What could cause this? Hormonal imbalance? (she s on the pill, too.)

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Night sweats at this age could be due to hormonal imbalances. Thyroid hormones evaluation is necessary. However, will require evaluation for medications side effects. 2. Need to look into infections, specifically chronic infections due to co-existing irritable bowel syndrome and being underweight. 3. A complete hemogram along with a thyroid hormone profile will be helpful in further evaluation. Other things to look into are - avoid spicy foods or hot drinks before bed time, hot weather, excessive amount of blankets or exercises before bed time. Meet your doctor for tests. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
