Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have had a leaking anus for about 8 years now. It s very itchy and sometimes sore and feels inflamed although I can t really see it. I ve suffered from hemoroids before and had them banded and they cleared up, and don t have them anymore. It seems to get worse in the summer time, but does happen all year round. Sometimes the discharge is smelly and sometimes not. Can you help me ??
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read your history of smelly discharge and itching at the anus more so in the summer but present all year long. This is not due to leakage or the banded hemorrhoids as you have thought so. The cause in your case looks to the excessive sweating in some patients like you. The sweat allows the saprophytic bacteria to reside in the skin, cause sub-clinical infection, itching and allow the smelly discharge The treatment s as follows: Clean the area with plain water as many times as possible as you will have least retained sweat. Apply liquid povidone iodine locally and let it dry. Take a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotic. You will be fine.
