What Causes Body Pains, Nausea, Fatigue And Severe Neck Pain?

I am writing this for a co-worker. Symptoms began on Monday, April 27 with fever of 101.5 degrees, body aches, nausea, fatigue, severe pain in neck, spine and head and chills. Heart was racing and felt like vomiting. It took two days to ease the discomfort and the fever was gone. Returned to work on Thursday, April 30, then that evening was able to sleep, but woke up Friday, May 1 with body discomfort, chills, pain in lower spine, weakness, shortness of breath, fatigue and a temp of 101.5. Had been on Nitrifurantoin until a cystoscope was scheduled on Mya 21, but stopped taking the medication. What is going on?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The symptoms of body ache, fever, nausea, fatigue, pain in neck, spine & head along with chills and rigors are suggestive of some infection.
The infection can be viral or parasitic (malarial infection).
A history of nitrofurantoin suggests that you have been taking medication for urinary tract infection (UTI).
UTI can also lead to similar symptoms.
Thus, an urine examination should be carried out to look for evidence of infection.
If the infection is not responding to nitrofurantoin, a culture study followed by drug sensitivity can be done to select the most appropriate antibiotic effective against the infectious micro-organism.
However, a clinical assessment is necessary before going for any investigation.

Thanks and take care
