What Causes Blood In Urine?

I recently discovered that I have a UTI. Today I passed blood through my urine. I am not taking antibiotics for my UTI, I caught it early enough to treat it at home! I felt the symptoms yesterday, drank pure cranberry juice and a lot of water. I woke up this morning and didn t feel the pain near as bad. Tonight I can tell that it is almost gone. But I still don t know why there would be blood in my urine..

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Due to urinary tract infection, mucosal damage and bleeding can occur resulting in hematuria.
2. Lot of water and cranberry juice will be helpful. Sometimes antibiotics maybe necessary, if infection persists. Antibiotics like levofloxacin or nitrofurantoin can be done. Better would be to get a culture and sensitivity of urine sample to identify appropriate antibiotic.
3. Also get a repeat urine analysis, after completion of course of therapy. It could confirm treatment. Get treated earlier to avoid ascending of infection into the kidneys.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
