What Causes Blood In The Urine?

I have blood when I urinate. Sometimes just a little and a lot randomly. No pain but sometimes I have a burning kind of feeling ( not inside but right before urine comes out ). I am 59 years old and have a job where I sometimes lift things up to 50 pounds. Could I have hurt something inside. This is not continuous. Bleeding does not happen when standing or sitting.

Hi BarbWelcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
There can be lot of problems that can causes bleeding in urine & slight burning sensation before urination.

1.Most common is Urinary tract infection, which is infection of urinary tract such as urethra, bladder, etc . Urine examination would be done. Presence of Pus cells , tissue and red blood cell will suggest infection. Antibiotics will be needed. Drinking ample amount of fluid also helps.
2.Benign prostatic hyperplasia is also a common cause in elderly male, it is enlargement of prostrate gland. once prostrate gland becomes large it causes obstruction to flow of urine & bleeding in some cases.
3.Stones in the kidney, bladder or ureter may also cause bleeding while urination when a small stone gets passed through urethra.

So you should visit a urologist, he would give you a proper diagnose & treat accordingly

Hoping your query is solved.
