Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 92 year old father in law showed blood in his stool this morning. Plus a lot of stool. He is struggling walking, his right leg does not support him all the time, he fell two weeks ago, backwards, hitting his back and then his head. He cannot hear you unless you shout and he is very stubborn. Apparently he is eating applesauce every day.
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows: 1. Blood in stools in the elderly is a serious issue. 2. It could be due to hard stool secondary to hemorrhoids or it could be a colonic cancer. 3. Stool examination, rectal examination, proctoscopy and if required, colonoscopy is necessary. Meet your doctor at the earliest for these tests. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
