21 year old female in excellent physical condition. Exercise daily. Hgt. 5'6" Wgt. 135. Showing signs of hypoglycemia such as tremor in hands. Sometimes feel light headed. Last night just had a snack and NO dinner. Got up in the morning and went for a several mile run. After had blood in the stool. Can someone have blood in their stools because of hypoglycemia?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Hypoglycemia won't cause blood in stools, but in rare cases few exercises induced blood in stools may accur.
Cause is unknown but probable mechanism is decreased blood flow to certain segments of the colon. Blood flow to the colon is decreased during exertion and if this is maintained for a prolonged period, the superficial lining of the colon may be damaged and slough off with a bowel movement.
Another possible cause is mechanical jarring of the intestines while running. Also important is to rule out other causes like haemorrhoids, fistula and fissures. Please consult your doctor who will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
