What Causes Blood In Sputum While Suffering From Bronchitis?
I have had bronchitis for almost 6 weeks. Finally went to the Doctor 2 weeks ago. Was given prescriptions for an antibiotic and cough syrup with codine. Had to stop the cough medicine due to constipation. Cough varies from day to day, still not able to sleep through the night. Energy level fluctuates day to day. Tonight when I thought I was coughing up phlegm, it was a clot of blood. I will try to get into the Dr again this week.

For bronchitis your work up done as follow...
_Auscultation
_chest x ray
_CBC
_spirometry if needed to assess severity of bronchitis
If bronchoconstriction present than bronchodilator inhalation cam be prescribed
Complete the course of prescribed antibiotic for five to seven days
Steam inhalation will be beneficial
If cough is productive than sputum examination will be done
Take care
Consult pulmonologoist for examination and discuss your case
