What Causes Blood In Sputum After Tonsillectomy?

i am following up a tonsillectomy surgery. it is night 5, and i have a few blood clots formed, they are small. day 3 through 5 i have been spitting up basically just saliva with a tiny bit of blood but i gargle with ice water and the bleeding then stops. its not rushing out of my mouth or anything. is blood clots normal? and do they go away on their own or should i be concerned. thanks

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain as it is only 5 days of your tonsillectomy surgery the wound has not yet healed completely and the mucosa in the areas of surgery must be inflamed and inflamed tissues has profound blood vessels that are immature and rupture easily..

It is leading to bleeding even on slightest stimulation..

If bleeding is minor you need not to worry as the condition will resolve soon..
In case if there is pain or bleeding is severe and frequent with mucus formation then you need to consult your surgeon to get evaluated for probability of infection..

You should do warm saline gargles, take soft diet and should also avoid vigorous coughing to clean the throat as there is excess mucous post tonsillectomy..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
